Lower Antelope Canyon is one of the several slot canyons that make up the Antelope Canyon in northern Arizona. A few miles away from its more famous counterpart Upper Antelope Canyon, this canyon is slightly longer and features winding paths, narrow passageways, and sandy floors that add to its adventure.
Height: The canyon walls reach around 75 feet (about 23 meters) at their tallest points.
Layout: Lower Antelope Canyon is characterized by its V-shape. It is narrower at the bottom and wider at the top.
Navajo name: Hazdistazí which means "spiral rock arches" in Navajo.
Access: You will need to navigate flights of stairs and ladders.
Open hours: Tour slots are available between 7:30am to 4pm
Arrive at the meeting point at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time of your tour.
Best time to visit: Summer (June to August) is the best time to catch the light beams in Lower Antelope Canyon. This is also peak tourist season, so you will have to book tickets at least a month in advance. Visit during late fall or winter (November to February) for fewer crowds and the chance to see the canyon in a softer, more diffused light that enhances the rock’s colors and textures. Keep in mind that temperatures can drop significantly and the canyon may feel colder due to limited sunlight in winter.

The Lower Antelope Canyon’s sandstone formations, formed over millions of years, resemble ocean waves. These are illuminated by light beams that highlight its intricate textures and colors, making it one of the most photographed slot canyons in the world.
No, access to Lower Antelope Canyon is restricted to guided tours only, due to its location on Navajo land.
The tour requires you to descend steep stairs, navigate narrow passageways, and climb ladders in uneven terrain, so be prepared for moderate physical activity.
The best time for photography is during the summer months, particularly between 10am and 2pm, when the light beams are at their strongest.
While you can bring a camera with you, keep in mind that tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks are not allowed into the canyon. Photography is encouraged but videography is prohibited.
The canyon is a wonderful place to take your family out on a day of adventure, but it may not be suitable for very young children or those with mobility issues. The narrow paths and ladders can be physically challenging.
